If you’d like to support Jo’s challenge there are options to give to the dementia research charity BRACE, which can be gift-aided, or to help fund core work of the Exeter Dementia Action Alliance.

BRACE chief executive Mark Poarch said Jo’s a true inspiration to fundraisers across the region.

He said: “I’m always impressed by people who run to raise money for BRACE, but going from Bristol to Exeter is something else!

“It’s also symbolic in its way, because Bristol and Exeter are two of the centres of world class science where BRACE is funding research.

“The money Jo is raising will help fund leading edge research into the causes of dementia so we can move closer to developing effective treatments in the future.”

Gina Awad, Exeter Dementia Action Alliance lead, said: “Jo is one of a kind, inspirational, determined, passionate but above all relentless in her running pursuits.

“Jo and I were introduced around 4 years ago through our shared passion for dementia.

“We’ve never looked back since and have collaborated on a number of projects.

“The Exeter Dementia Action Alliance (EDAA) was founded by myself almost 3 years ago and we were honoured for Jo to speak at our launch event.

“When my vision of a dementia friendly Exeter first came about Jo was extremely supportive and has been ever since.

“She has faced so many personal difficulties over the past few years but never ceases to amaze me with her courage and conviction. A shining light in my eyes.

“Additionally Jo has been the primary supporter of my dementia radio show ‘Living better with dementia’ over the past two years for which I’m extremely grateful.

“On behalf of the Exeter Dementia Action Alliance we are sincerely grateful and humbled by Jo who has selected us as a community group who is striving to educate businesses about dementia in Exeter whilst we make a marked difference for people living with dementia and their families. This support will help enable us to work towards charitable status in 2018.

“We wish her well with her upcoming challenges. I couldn’t see Jo go it all alone so will be personally joining her mid challenge to walk with her for two half marathons.”
